The LANcity Network Management System (NMS) provides centralized datamanagement and control of LANcity Network Operations. It takes advantageof the built-in operational independence and statistics collectioncapabilities of each LANcity Network Interface Unit (NIU) to add acentral level of control to the network operator. The NMS can beinitialized to control some or all port configuration changes and useraccess to network resources; and to perform both network monitoring andmanagement functions. Network performance monitoring can be done upon theentire network, a subnet, a logical group of devices, or an arbitrarygroup of devices. The database stores a definition of each NIU on thenetwork specifying its unique operating parameters as well as individualconfiguration records for each port of the NIU. The NMS has an onlinereport generator to produce reports on various data that has beencollected from the network.
